To help us deliver this service to you, we have teamed up with HPI, the pioneers in vehicle history checks. Carrying out vehicle checks since 1938 means that they can provide the most accurate and comprehensive information on used vehicles. Hpi checks have proven to be 80% more accurate than their closest competitor in addition to this, they are backed by Britain’s largest insurance group; Aviva, whose portfolio consists of some of the most reputable names in car services to date such as; RAC and Norwich Union

Why do we think an Hpi check is essential?

Although we pride ourselves on identifying the right car for you there are certain things we cannot tell on face value. Here are some reasons why we go that extra mile to ensure all cars are above board.

What exactly does Hpi check for us?

Vehicle Description

• Colour
• Make/ model
• Door plan

Fuel

• Engine size/number
• Transmission
• Any export markers from DVLA or DVLNI
• Number of former keepers
• Key dates e.g. last recorded change of keeper, year of manufacture and first registration

Plate Transfer

• Indicate if the vehicle has had a legitimate registration plate change since April 1990
• Prior plates are examined to identify other records that may still be associated with vehicle

VIN Disclosure/ VIN matchront wheel drive unit

• VIN disclosure will tell you the unique Vehicle Identification Number that should be associated with the Vehicle Registration Mark (VRM) entered.
• By entering both the VRM and VIN numbers the Hpi check can confirm if they both correspond – any mis-match signals a 'ringer'

Security Watch

• This is used to trace high 'risk vehicles', which have been stolen and put back on the market.

Stolen Vehicles

• Detect whether the vehicle is reported stolen and tells you which constabulary recorded the theft.

Outstanding Finance

• Help ensure the car does not have any outstanding finance.
• Where finance is recorded, the lenders contact details are provided, so that we can investigate or settle the agreement.

Condition Alert

• Ensures the car has not been insurance ‘Write off’ due to damage, or recorded with the DVLA as been scrapped.
• For vehicles written off since January 1997, the Hpi check helps us to identify whether the car is suitable for safe repair or it should never go back on the road.

Condition Inspected

• Unique to Hpi, this provides details of 'written off' vehicles which have passed an independent Thatcham-approved structural examination since January 1990.

Condition Theft

• Information on vehicles which have been stolen and not recovered, the information is provided by the insurers.
• HPI can find out if the vehicles behind these total loss claims are still property of the insurers

Documents Check

• Hpi's unique document check facility checks serial numbers and issue dates to make sure vehicles do not carry a stolen V5 Registration Document or MOT

CO2 Emissions

• Hpi now provide CO2 emissions data linked to the vehicle that can assist in determining the level of vehicle excise duty. There is also a component which calculates the company car benefit-in-kind taxation levels
